Alicante, a town along the White Coast of the Mediterranean Sea, with interesting old town and lively nightlife, is a wonderful place to come and enjoy the sun. You will find other tourists here but you will not find them as overwhelming as in other local sun destinations. Be here in mid-June when the town is overtaken by boisterous celebrations celebrating the summer solstice, complete with fireworks, music and bonfires. Throughout the summer, you will be entertained with numerous music and dance festivals in venues across the city.
Airport Transportation:
The airport is serviced by bus and taxi service. Buses depart from outside the airport terminal for the 30-minute trip to the town center costing about €1. Taxis can be hailed outside the terminal and cost about €10.
Explore Alicante:
Visit the sights: Castillo de Santa Barbara, a 16th century fortress perched over the city on Mount Benacantil, with exhibitions on art and sculpture; Museo de la Aseguranda, modern art museum with works of Picasso, Dali and Miro; 18th century Town Hall with imposing towers; Iglesia de Santa Maria, church with beautiful interior; MUBAG, located in a 17th century palace, with exhibits on fine arts; and Museo Taurino, with exhibits on the sport of bullfighting. Wander down the Explanada des Espana that runs parallel to the harbor and enjoy the fine shopping and outdoor cafes in the area. Go further afield and visit Monasterio de la Santa Faz where the reputed cloth that Veronica used to wipe Jesus' forehead is housed. When you finally want some sun in the fun, hit the beaches. Playa del Postiguet is the town's beach; but Playa de San Juan about 6 miles out of town is known to be larger and less crowded. Take a boat to the Isla de Tabarca, a nearby island known for its quiet beaches, snorkeling and scuba diving. At night, head towards the music and dance scene located in the area of town near the cathedral or at the Playa de San Juan. From a
